getting kids to eat the right things - the sneaky way
Sometimes you have to resort to being tricky to get kids to eat the right things. Introducing..."UnderCover Veggies"..vegetables and nutritious ingredients in disguise in tasty meals kids love.
This book was written by my 6-year old son and myself, and it aims to answer parents' concerns that they cannot get their kids to eat healthy food.
The book is a collection of tasty, healthy recipes which contain some "special" ingredients to add nutritional value to kid-approved favorites. Sometimes these ingredients are "undercover veggies", sneaked in without anyone realizing. The recipes taste good and are good for you. They are easy to make and fun to eat, and appeal to kids.
"Under-Cover Veggies" are vegetables in disguise, masked by tasty treats. The recipes in this book all contain nutritious ingredients, and taste pretty good. The recipes include chocolate chip zucchini cookies and yam burgers. The recipes taste good, are good for you, and appeal to kids.
Healthy foods that are appealing to kids appears to be a contradiction. But as we point out, "To be appealing, food must look good and taste good. Beyond that, kids don't care one bit what's in the food they are eating; you already know that. In the battle to win over kids, presentation and taste win". These are some of the tricks of the trade for crafty parents.
These recipes are also great for adults who may not be big vegetable fans.
As a parent, I am very interested in seeing that the kids eat the right things. That's not easy when a lot of the tasty and fun foods are not that healthy. Good eating habits start early and last a lifetime, and so do not-so-good eating habits.
As co-author of this work, my job was to handle the writing part, while my son provided the direction and creative input. Together, we have put together a collection of recipes for tasty healthy meals and treats, plus some other suggestions for adding nutrition, without sacrificing good taste and kid appeal. Our mission is to help kids to develop good eating habits and to get the nutrition they need to grow up strong and healthy.
We hope this will be the first of many successful projects created by this partnership and an inspiration to other parents to keep their kids on the right track to eating healthy foods.
